HEADLINES
AS CONGRESS' END OF YEAR TO-DO LIST GROWS,  NAFTA COULD GET ADDED IN 2018.  I THINK THERE IS A DISPUTE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE  ADMINISTRATION HAS THE POWER TO WALK WHY JUST WALKING AWAY MAY NOT BE SO EASY.  SORGHUM GROWERS ARE BANKING ON DEMAND.. <"INTERNATIONAL DEMAND CONTINUES TO BE VERY VERY STRONG  THERE,"> THAT'S AS THE LATEST SORGHUM YIELDS ARE FLOWING  IN.  IN AGRIBUSINESS, A POLTICAL MISSTEPS COULD HAVE  AN IMPACT ON WALSTREET.  < WE'RE ANTICIPATING A LONG TERM INCREASE IN INTEREST RATES THAT'S  GOING TO BE VERY DEPENDENT ON BUDGETS AND ON TAX REFORM > BUT WHAT IF TAX REFORM DOESN'T GO THROUGH. AND SEARCHING FOR THE CENTER OF AMERICA - IT'S  NOT SUCH AN EASY TASK.

TRUMP TAX PLAN
GOOD MORNING I'M TYNE MORGAN, IN FOR CLINTON  GRIFITHS. WITH ONLY 12 WORKING DAYS LEFT WHEN  BOTH THE HOUSE AND SENATE ARE IN SESSION,  THERE'S A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB WITH TEH TRUMP  ADMINSTRATION'S KEY AGENDA ITEMS GETTING  PASSED. AT THE TOP OF THAT LIST IS TAX REFORM.  JUST BEFORE THE HOLIDAY BREAK, THE HOUSE PASSED  ITS VERSION OF TAX REFORM. THE SENATE'S BILL MADE  IT OUT OF COMMITTEE, BUT HAS YET TO SURFACE ON  TEH SENATE FLOOR FOR A KEY VOTE THERE. THERE ARE STILL DISCREPENCIES WHEN IT COMES TO  ITEMS LIKE THE ESTATE TAX. THE HOUSE WANTING TO  REPEAL THE TAX AFTER 6 YEARS. THE SENATE  PROPOSING TO DOUBLE EXEMPTIONS. PAUL NEIFFER CPA DOUBTS THE HOUSE'S VERSION WILL SURVIVE IN WASHINGTON.  IF THIS THING EVEN GOES THROUGH. IT'S GOING TO SQUEAK BY IN  THE SENATE AND LIKELY WHATEVER THAT FINAL BILL THAT COMES OUT OF  THE SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE, LIKELY THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE  THAT'S GOING TO BE THE TAX BILL BECAUSE NORMALLY GO INTO A  CONFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE. BUT THERE'S NOT  ENOUGH VOTES IN THE SENATE TO OVERCOME ANY CHANGES. I HAVE A FEELING WHATEVER COMES OUT OF THE SENATE  FINANCE COMMITTEE THAT GETS PASSED BY THE SENATE IF WE'RE  GOING TO HAVE TAX CHANGES, THAT'S GOING TO BE IT>

NAFTA 2.0
THE SENATE COULD END UP TAKING ON NAFTA.  THE FIFTH ROUND OF NAFTA 2 POINT 0 TALKS WRAPPED  UP LAST WEEK.  NEGOTIATERS MADE HEADWAY ON LESS  CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES LIKE WITH DIGITAL TRADE,  TELECOMMUNCIATIONS, FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS AND  STREAMLINING CUSTOM PROCEDURES.  BUT U-S TRADE REPRESENTATIVE ROBERT LIGHTHIZER  THROWING OUT TERSE TALK ONCE AGAIN.. SAYING IF  CANADA AND MEXICO DOESN'T TAKE THE U-S  PROPOSALS MORE SERIOUSLY AND START  RESPONDING, THEN THE THREE COUNTRIES WON'T  REACH A SATISFACTORY RESULT.  BUT IT'S THESE THREATS OF WALKING AWAY THAT MAY  BE EASIER SAID THAN DONE  I THINK THERE IS A DISPUTE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE ADMINISTRATION HAS THE POWER TO WALK COMPLETELY AWAY FROM A  TRADE AGREEMENT AS OPPOSED TO TINKERING WITH IT. AND I THINK THAT  MAY ALSO HAVE AN IMPACT ON ITS WILLINGNESS ULTIMATELY TO WALK  AWAY FROM THE DEAL. I  FARM JOURNAL WASHINGTON CORRESPONADNT JIM  WIESEMEYER SAYS IF NEGOTIATERS REACH A DEAD  END AND THE U-S DOES WALK AWAY, THE MATTER  COULD ULTIMATELY END UP IN THE COURTS, OR ON CONGRESS' PLATE.  CONGRESS COULD ACTUALLY PICK UP THE PIECES AND MANDATE  THAT THE EXISTING NAFTA WOULD KEEP IN PLACE. BUT AS YOU WELL  KNOW CONGRESS DOESN'T DO ANYTHING QUICKLY. SO THE BLACK SWAN  ON ANY COLLAPSE OF NAFTA IS THAT IT WOULD BE NEGATIVE A SHORT  TERM. A LOT OF PAIN. IT COULD TIP AGRICULTURE INTO A GROWTH RECESSION > IT'S ANOTHER LONG BREAK BEFORE THE NEXT ROUND  OF TALKS.  THOSE START BACK UP IN CANADA ON JANUARY 23RD.

SORGHUM ACRES
IT'S INCREASED TRADE THAT HELPED BOOST SORGHUM  ACRES A FEW YEARS AGO.  USDA'S  CROP PROGRESS REPORT SHOWS SORGHUM  HARVEST IS NEARLY COMPLETE THIS YEAR.   90 PERCENT OF ACRES HAVE BEEN HARVESTED IN THE  TOP ELEVEN PRODUCING STATES, JUST 2 POINTS  BEHIND AVERAGE.  NOW THAT HARVEST IS WRAPPING UP, HOW DID THE  YEAR TURN OUT AND HOW DOES THE DEMAND PICTURE  LOOK? BETSY JIBBEN REPORTS.  MANY GROWERS HAVE FINISHED SORGHUM HARVEST  FOR THE YEAR.  JUSTIN KNOPF FROM GYPSUM, KANSAS IS ONE OF THEM.  <"WE HAD A REALLY PROLONGED DROUGHT AND A LOT OF HEAT IN THE  SECOND HALF OF THE SUMMER SO OUR YIELDS WERE RIGHT AROUND APH  LEVELS, ABOVE OR A LITTLE BELOW CROP INSURANCE LEVELS,"> KNOPF SAYS FEWER SORGHUM ACRES WERE PLANTED  IN HIS AREA . HE BELIEVES THAT'S PARTLY BECAUSE  GROWERS HAD SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE  SUGARCANE APHID DURING PAST YEARS. THE PEST  PRODUCES HONEYDEW ON THE PLANT WHICH CLOGS   COMBINES AND REDUCES YIELD. <"I'M HAPPY TO SAY THAT IT WASN'T VERY SIGNIFICANT THIS YEAR. THE  BENEFICIALS HAVE CHANGED AND ADAPTED AND CONTROLLED THE INSECT  A LOT BETTER AND GROWERS HAVE LEARNED HOW TO DEAL WITH THAT,"> <"SURPRINGLY, WE HAD VERY LITTLE APHID PRESSURE THIS YEAR IN  CENTRAL KANSAS THIS YEAR. WHY THAT IS, WE ARE NOT SURE. I THINK  FARMERS TO THE SOUTH OF US ARE MORE PROACTIVE AT MANAGING IT,"> HE SAYS THAT MAY BE ONE REASON WHY APHID  PRESSURE IS LESS TOO.  <"I THINK A LOT OF IT IS ECONOMICS. PLANTING, TIME, ECONOMICS IN  BEANS LOOKED A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN SORGHUM,"> BUT LUST SAYS THERE'S BEEN A 30 TO 40 CENT BASIS  INCREASE ACROSS THE SORGHUM BELT EARLIER THIS  MONTH.     <"WE CERTAINLY SAW THAT PUSH IN PRICE AT HARVEST THAT'S NOT  TRADITIONAL I THINK IT WILL SIGNAL A GOOD MESSAGE AS WE GO INTO  2018 IN TERMS OF OUR NEED FOR ACRES,"> HE HOPES IT WILL ENTICE FARMERS TO GROW MORE  ACRES BECAUSE THE U.S. NEEDS IT WITH DEMAND.  ACCORDING TO USDA'S CROP PRODUCTION REPORT,  THE TOP ELEVEN PRODUCING SORGHUM STATES WILL  HARVEST JUST OVER 5 MILLION ACRES, LOWER THAN  THE 6.1 MILLION ACRES HARVESTED  LAST YEAR.  <"WE'RE SHORT, FRANKLY,"> HE SAYS CHINA HAS A LINGERING APPETITE FOR  SORGHUM.  ACCORDING TO I-N-T-L F- C STONE   EXPORTERS HAVE SHIPPED 25.2 MILLION BUSHELS OF  SORGHUM TO CHINA SO FAR, SLIGHTLY HIGHER COMPARED TO 20.3 MILLION BUSHELS SHIPED TO THIS  POINT LAST YEAR.  <"INTERNATIONAL DEMAND CONTINUES TO BE VERY VERY STRONG  THERE,"> GROWERS HOPE THAT APPETITE WILL CONTINUE INTO  NEXT YEAR.  REPORTING FOR AGDAY, I'M BETSY JIBBEN. )

CROP COMMENTS
MIKE HOFFMAN KICKS US OFF WITH CROP COMMENTS  FOR THE START OF THIS WEEK. MIKE.  GOOD MORNING, TYNE.  ROBERT REESE IN LANSING, MICHIGAN SAYS HARVEST  IS SLOW MOVING - HIS AREA RECEIVED ALMOST ELEVEN  INCHES OF RAIN WITHIN THE LAST 6 OR 7 WEEKS- WHICH  HAS CREATED A MUDDY MESS!  HE SAYS THERE ARE A LOT OF STANDING CROPS IN THE  FIELD.  USDA SAYS 91 PERCENT OF SOYBEANS AND  77  PERCENT OF CORN ARE OUT OF THE FIELD IN THE  STATE - BOTH BEHIND THE AVERAGE.  AND NOW HERE ARE SOME HOMETOWN TEMPS.  FARM JOURNAL ON AIR IS THE GO-TO APP FOR AMERICAN  AGRICULTURE.  AGDAY, AGRITALK, U.S. FARM REPORT AND MORE -  24/7 ACCESS TO ALL OF YOUR FAVORITE SHOWS. TEASE
THANKSGIVING IS PAST US AND CONGRESS HAS A  SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO WORK ON TAX REFORM  BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR. NEXT IN ANALYSIS BILL BIEDERMANN OF ALLENDALE INC  JOINS ME TO DISCUSS THE MACRO-ECONOMICS AT  WORK. PLUS MACHINERY PETE IS HERE. AND WE SET-OUT TO FIND THE CENTER OF AMERICA -  NORTH AMERICA.  AND IT'S NOT SUCH AS EASY TASK. FIND OUT WHY WHEN WE HEAD IN THE COUNTRY.

AGRIBUSINESS
WELCOME BACK HERE NOW WITH BILL BIEDERMAN OF ALLENDALE BILL.  THANKSGIVING BREAK IS BEHIND US. CONGRESS IS BACK IN SESSION A  LOT ON THE AGENDA. WHEN YOU LOOK AT TAX REFORM IN SOME OF THOSE  OTHER ISSUES DO YOU THINK THAT THOSE CONTINUE TO IMPACT OUR AGRICULTURAL MARKETS. I DO. AND I THINK IT DOES IN A VERY BIG WAY  ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU LOOK AT HOW IT IMPACTS HOW THE FUNDS  POSITION HERE LIKE RIGHT NOW. WE'RE ANTICIPATING A LONG TERM  INCREASE IN INTEREST RATES THAT'S GOING TO BE VERY DEPENDENT ON  BUDGETS AND ON TAX REFORM. THE STOCK MARKET HAS HAD THE  BIGGEST BALLOON THAT HAS EVER BEEN FILLED UP WITH AIR. AND IF THAT  THING BREAKS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GET THE TAX REFORM DONE  PROPERLY IT COULD REALLY OPEN THE DOOR FOR SOME MASSIVE FAST  PANICKY TYPE LIQUIDATION. BUT THE FUNDS RIGHT NOW ARE IN A RECORD  SHORT POSITION OF CORN AND A VERY VERY SMALL LONG POSITION IN  SOYBEANS LARGE POSITION SHORT IN THE WHEAT. AND IF THEY DECIDE TO  MOVE SOME OF THAT MONEY OUT OF EQUITIES TO LOCK IN THE KIND OF  RETURNS THEY'VE MADE THIS YEAR AND MOVE SOME OF THAT MONEY  INTO COMMODITIES COULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. YOU KNOW YOU  TALK ABOUT THE STOCK MARKET AND WE CONTINUE TO BE IMPRESSED BY  THE RUN UP THAT WE'VE SEEN AND YOU DESCRIBE IT AS A BLUE. SO  LET'S SAY WE DO GO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. IS IT KIND OF A SLOW  DEFLATING OF THAT BALLOON OR IS IT MORE LIKE A POP. DO YOU THINK THAT  HAPPENS WITH THESE MARKETS. WELL IF YOU LOOK AT INSTITUTIONAL  TRADERS RIGHT NOW THEY'VE ALREADY MOVED OUT A BIG BIG PORTION OF  THEIR BOOK OR THEY'VE OFFSET IT WITH FUTURES. SO THEY'VE SOLD  FUTURES AGAINST THEIR BOOK. THIS LEAVES THE MARKET PRETTY  VULNERABLE TO THE TYPE OF PEOPLE THAT WOULD GET OUT QUICKLY. I  WOULD THINK THAT YOU'D SEE A VERY FAST DECLINE. BUT THE PROBLEM IS  IT COULD BE 500 POINTS BUT IT COULD BE 4000 POINTS JUST TO GET A 50  PERCENT PULLBACK. THAT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE YOU KNOW. SO IT  DEPENDS ON HOW IT FEEDS ON ITSELF. BUT ONE THING IS FOR SURE  WHATEVER THAT BREAK IS THE INSTITUTIONAL BUYERS WILL COME BACK  INTO IT. AND SO WHAT DOES THAT ULTIMATELY MEAN FOR AGRICULTURE. I  THINK AT THE POINT AT THIS POINT WE'RE IN RIGHT NOW WE'RE SEEING  FUNDS COME INTO COMMODITIES LIKE LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENED TO  THE MEAT MARKETS. THEY'VE GONE CRAZY. AND AND WHOEVER WOULD  HAVE THOUGHT THAT CRUDE OIL WOULD HAVE DOUBLED ITS PRICE THE LAST  YEAR. RIGHT. EVERYBODY WAS SO BEARISH. BUT NOW IT'S DOUBLE THE  PRICE IS BACK UP INTO THE 50S. I THINK THAT THE GRAINS AND STARCHES  ARE VERY CHEAP RIGHT NOW. ALL RIGHT. WELL WE APPRECIATE YOU  JOINING US. THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE NEED TO TAKE A QUICK BREAK  AND THEN WE'LL HAVE A CHECK OF WEATHER HERE ON AGDAY. >0 AGDAY - BROUGHT TO YOU BY CREDENZ SOYBEAN SEED FROM  BAYER.  DESIGNED USING SMART GENETICS WITH TAILORED VARIETIES TO  FIT ANY FIELD CONDITION.

WEATHER
WELCOME BACK TO AG DAY. I'M METEOROLOGIST MIKE HOFFMAN AND AS YOU CAN SEE WE'VE KIND OF FLIP FLOP THINGS AT LEAST TEMPORARILY HERE OR THE TROUGH OUT WEST AND THE RIDGE IN THE EAST BUT THE GENERAL SITUATION IS WE'VE WATCHED OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS IS THIS TROUGH IN THE EAST RIDGE OUT WEST. THAT'S WHAT WE GO BACK TO. BY THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK. AND WHILE WE DO SEE THESE LITTLE TROUGHS KIND OF MOVING FROM WEST TO EAST WE GENERALLY STILL HAVE TROUGHING THIS IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE COUNTRY. WITH THIS OVERALL WEATHER PATTERN AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE I THINK AS WE HEAD INTO THE MONTH OF DECEMBER SO TEMPERATURES FOR THIS WEEK. FIRST OF ALL I'M GOING BELOW NORMAL MOST OF EASTERN CANADA UP AND DOWN THE EASTERN SEABOARD OF THE UNITED STATES AS WELL AS THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE GREAT LAKES. NOW FROM THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WESTWARD PRETTY MUCH AND THE ENTIRE LOWER 48 AM GOING ABOVE NORMAL FOR THIS WEEK. GENERALLY WITH THAT RIDGE DOMINATING MOST OF THE WESTERN STATES PRECIPITATION THIS WEEK NOT A LOT GOING ON. MOST OF WHAT WILL BE GOING ON WILL BE KIND OF TRACKING ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER OF STATES. SO WE'LL GO ABOVE NORMAL IN WESTERN MONTANA INTO THE NORTHWESTERN SECTIONS OF THE COUNTRY AND THEN BELOW NORMAL FOR MOST OF THE PLAINS THE SOUTHWEST AND MOST TO THE EAST AS YOU CAN SEE. I GO NEAR NORMAL FOR THE GREAT LAKES AND PARTS OF THE NORTHEAST AS WELL AS THE PENINSULA OF FLORIDA. DECEMBER TEMPERATURES THIS ARE NINE AND DAY OUTLOOK BUT WE'LL GO MONTH BY MONTH HERE DECEMBER TEMPERATURES I'M GOING TO GO BELOW NORMAL BASICALLY NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER VALLEY RIGHT ON INTO CANADA. NORTHERN HALF OF THE PLAINS BELOW NORMAL AND THEN ABOVE NORMAL AS YOU CAN SEE THROUGH THE SOUTHWEST INTO WESTERN AND SOUTHERN TEXAS MUCH OF FLORIDA AND THE FAR SOUTH EAST COAST OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AS FAR AS JANUARY IS CONCERNED WE'RE GOING TO KEEP IT ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE SOUTH THE SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THROUGH MOST OF THE SOUTHWEST INCLUDING THE FOUR CORNER REGION BELOW NORMAL ONLY FOR THE FAR NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE PLAINS INTO CENTRAL AND WESTERN CANADA GOING ON TO FEBRUARY THEN WE'LL GO BELOW NORMAL WILL EXPAND THAT A LITTLE FARTHER TO THE EAST INTO THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN GREAT LAKES NORTHERN THIRD OF THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY ON UP THROUGH MOST OF WESTERN CANADA FOUR CORNER REGION CALIFORNIA TEXAS THROUGH THE SOUTHEAST ABOVE NORMAL AS WELL AS PARTS OF THE NORTHEAST COAST AS WELL. AND FINALLY THE OUTLOOK FOR PRECIPITATION ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE EASTERN OHIO VALLEY EASTERN GREAT LAKES INTO THE NORTHEAST. SAME THING IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST MUCH OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS SOUTHEAST SOUTHWEST EXPECTED TO BE BELOW NORMAL. THAT'S A LOOK ACROSS THE COUNTRY. NOW LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME LOCAL FORECASTS. WE HEAD TO CARLSBAD NEW MEXICO FIRST OF ALL MOSTLY SUNNY RATHER WARM HIGH AROUND 80 DEGREES. OMAHA NEBRASKA LOTS OF SUNSHINE AND BREEZY WITH A HIGH OF 62 IN COLUMBUS GEORGIA. A GOOD DEAL OF SUNSHINE AND NICE HIGH AROUND 63 DEGREES.

TEASE
STILL TO COME, COMBINE VALUES HAVE STARTED TO  FIND FOOTING, BUT ARE PRICE TRENDS ON THE WAY  UP? WE'LL CHECK IN WITH MACHINERY PETE.  PLUS WE'LL HEAR ABOUT A DISPUTE BETWEEN TWO  NORTH DAKOTA TOWNS. BOTH CLAIM BRAGGING RIGHTS  BUT WHICH TOWN CAN ACTUALLY BE TITLED AS THE  CENTER OF NORTH AMERICA???

MACHINERY PETE
"MACHINERY PETE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY JOHN DEERE…WHERE  CAN YOU FIND THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE INVENTORY OF JOHN DEERE  CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED TRACTORS, COMBINES AND SPRAYERS?   MACHINE FINDER-DOT-COM … SOMETIMES THE BEST NEW ADDITION TO  YOUR FLEET ISN'T NEW!" ) THE MOMENTUM BEHIND COMBINES IS SOMETHING  MACHINERY PETE IS KEEPING AN EYE ON THROUGH THE  END OF THE YEAR. SO ARE PRICES STILL FINDING  FOOTING? LET'S CHECK IN NOW WITH MACHINERY PETE.    THREE HUNDRED TWENTY TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. THAT'S WHAT THIS  2016 CASE IH 8240 COMBINE WITH ONLY 28 SEPARATE SEPARATER OR  HOURS ON IT. SOLD FOR LAST TUESDAY ON A FARM AUCTION IN EAST  CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND THAT SALE IS BY OUR FRIENDS AT SULLIVAN  AUCTIONEERS I POSTED A PICTURE OF THAT COMBINE ON OUR FACEBOOK  PAGE. AN INTERESTING DISCUSSION ENSUED AND THERE'S ONE  COMMENT THAT WAS GOOD COMMENT. SOMEONE SAID GEE WHIZ  PETE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THAT SURPRISE GIVEN THE TOUGH TIMES IN  AG RIGHT NOW. AND MY REPLY WAS BASED ON A TRUTH THAT I'VE SEEN  OVER THE LAST 18 MONTHS AND OVER THE DECADES I'VE BEEN  COVERING PRICES IS THAT WHEN THINGS ARE TOUGH AND SALES OF NEW  HAVE SLOWED THERE'S MORE FOCUS ON GOOD USED EQUIPMENT AND  NOW THAT THREE HUNDRED TWENTY TWO THOUSAND DOLLAR PRICE THAT'S  THE HIGHEST AUCTION PRICE ON A COMBINE THIS YEAR. SECOND PLACE  WAS THIS 2016 JOHN DEERE S680 FIVE HUNDRED FIVE SEPARATOR  HOURS ON IT. SO FOR A FARM AUCTION BACK APRIL 25TH IN CENTRAL  NORTH DAKOTA NOW THAT SALE IS BY GOOD FOLKS AT THE STEFFES  GROUP. NOW ONE THING I WOULD SAY FOLKS IT'S BECOMING MUCH MORE  IMPORTANT WHO SELLS THE EQUIPMENT AT AUCTION. NOW BOTH SULLIVAN  AUCTIONEERS AND THE STEFFES GROUP DO A TREMENDOUS JOB IN TERMS  OF PROMOTION ONLINE BIDDING LEAVING NO STONE UNTURNED IN TERMS  OF TARGETED MARKETING AND WHAT OUR DATA IS BEGINNING TO SHOW  MORE CLEARLY IS WHEN YOU DO THAT THE PRICES ARE STRONG. BUT IF YOU  DON'T DO THAT PRICES ARE SOFTER.  IT'S CYBER MONDAY. MANY OF US WILL BE DOING OUR  CHRISTMAS SHOPPING TODAY ON-LINE. . AND WHY NOT EQUPMENT?  MACHINERY PETE DOT COM  IS HAVING A CYBER SALE THIS WEEK. IT GOES THROUGH  DECEMBER 4TH. WITH SECTION 179 TAX DISCOUNTS, IT  TIS THE SEASON TO SHOP.  I WONDER IF MY HUSBAND WOULD NOTICE IF A BOUGHT  A TRACTOR THIS WEEK?

TEASE
STILL TO COME IT'S THAT BUSY HOLIDAY TRAVEL  SEASON. AND WE'LL TAKE YOU TO THE "CENTER OF THE WORLD",  SO TO SPEAK.

IN THE COUNTRY
IN THE COUNTRY - SPONSORED BY KUBOTA.  DISCOVER THE POWER  BEHIND THE M6 SERIES AT KUBOTA.COM. ) AS YOU TRAVEL THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, PERHAPS YOUR  TRIP WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH THE GEOGRAPHICAL  CENTER OF NORTH AMERICA. WHERE IS IT, YOU MIGHT ASK.  THAT'S A GOOD  QUESTION....AND NO CLEAR ANSWER. TO SEEK THE TRUTH YOU'LL NEED TO DETERMINE  WHICH OFFICIAL AGENCY HAS THAT AUTHORITY. AND  WHAT PARTS OF THE CONTINENT ARE FACTORED INTO  THE EQUATION. . CLIFF NAYLOR FROM AFFILIATE KFYR GOES IN SEARCH  OF THE 'CENTER'. "EVERYBODY SAY CHEESE."  FOR MORE THAN EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS,  MOST PEOPLE CONSIDERED THIS MONUMENT, LOCATED AT THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 2 AND HIGHWAY 3 IN RUGBY, NORTH DAKOTA, TO BE THE  GEOGRAPHICAL CENTER OF NORTH AMERICA.  LILA HARSTAD, RUGBY  CHAMBER OF COMMENCE: "WE HAVE BEEN IT, WE ARE IT, IT'S THE  WAY IT IS."  THAT IS, UNTIL BILL BENDER, THE MAYOR OF ROBINSON,  NORTH DAKOTA, AND CO-OWNER OF HANSON'S BAR, PLACED DIBS ON  THE TITLE.   WE ALWAYS THOUGHT RUGBY'S CLAIM WAS VERY SUSPECT AS A LOT OF  PEOPLE DO BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER IN RUGBY, IT WAS ALWAYS, BEST  GUESS, IT WAS 15-16 MILES OUTSIDE OF RUGBY. BENDER DISCOVERED RUGBY ALLOWED THE TRADEMARK FOR THE  COVETED TITLE TO EXPIRE, SO HE APPLIED FOR, AND RECEIVED THE  DESIGNATION FROM THE UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK  OFFICE.  "WE DID SOME RESEARCH ON IT AND IT'S RIGHT  UNDERNEATH THE BAR, OUR BEST GUESS." THE TOWN OF ROBINSON IS 98 MILES SOUTH OF RUGBY. BENDER  INCLUDED THE CARIBBEAN IN HIS CONTINENTAL COMPUTATIONS. BILL BENDER: THIS IS THE OFFICIAL MARKER FOR THE GEOGRAPHICAL  CENTER OF NORTH AMERICA IN HANSON'S BAR." BILL THE SCIENCE GUY'S GEOGRAPHIC REVELATION DIDN'T SIT WELL WITH  RUGBY, EVEN THOUGH THEY CONCEDED THEIR 21-FOOT OBELISK ISN'T THE  ABSOLUTE, TRUE AND MATHEMATICAL CENTER OF THE CONTINENT. CAROL BOHLMAN, RUGBY, ND: ACTUALLY WE'RE NOT, IT'S WHAT, THREE  MILES OUT OF RUGBY, YOU CAN'T PUT IT WAY OUT THERE. TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, A THIRD TIME, RUGBY REAPPLIED FOR, AND  RECEIVED ANOTHER TRADEMARK, BY ADDING THE TOWN'S NAME IN FRONT  OF AND AFTER THE DESIGNATION. SHELLEY BLOCK, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CONSULTANT: "WE HAD TO  PROVE THAT WE HAD BEEN USING THE TRADEMARK LOGO, GEOGRAPHICAL  CENTER OF NORTH AMERICA, FOR ALL THOSE YEARS. FOR SOME, THIS WAR OF WORD ISN'T ABOUT BRAGGING RIGHTS, IT'S ABOUT  BUCKS. : "THANK YOU, HAVE A NICE DAY." SALES OF CUPS, T-SHIRTS AND POST CARDS DISPLAYING THE TITLE IS BIG  BUSINESS.  THERE'S THOUSANDS THAT COME IN AND OUT ALL THE TIME. PURCHASES AT HANSON'S BAR HAVE INCREASED SINCE ROBINSON  BECAME THE CENTER OF ATTENTION AND BILL THINKS HIS PLACE IS BETTER  SUITED THAN RUGBY FOR OFFICIAL STATUS. BILL BENDER: "YOU HAVE TO GO STAND OUT IN THE COLD AND TAKE  PICTURES AND PUT YOUR PARKA ON, HERE YOU'RE EIGHT FEET AWAY FROM  45-BAR, YOU CAN GET A BEER, WHY ISN'T THAT BETTER? FOR NOW, THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO OFFICIAL GEOGRAPHIC CENTERS OF  NORTH AMERICA.  "WE HAVE OUR THING, THEY HAVE THEIRS, WE'RE FINE CO- EXISTING." SO, THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION, WHERE IS THE GEOGRAPHICAL  CENTER OF NORTH AMERICA?, DEPENDS ON YOUR PERSPECTIVE.  I'M CLIFF NAYLOR REPORTING FOR AGDAY. ) .  THERE ENDETH TODAY'S  GEOGRAPHY LESSON.

CLOSE
THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE HAVE THIS MORNING. WE'RE  GLAD YOU TUNED IN.  FOR ALL OF US AT AGDAY I'M TYNE MORGAN. HAVE A  GREAT DAY.
