TODAY ON AGDAY:
NOVEMBER 26, 2010

FARM ECONOMY:
ON THIS BLACK FRIDAY, THE U.S. ECONOMY TYPICALLY GETS A JUMP-START FROM HOLIDAY SALES. BUT AS WE'VE BEEN REPORTING, AGRICULTURE IS LEADING THE WAY. SURGING CROP PRICES HAVE ALLOWED FARMERS TO REAP SOME OF THE REWARDS. IN THIS REPORT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, KENT FADDIS SAYS FARMERS ARE SPENDING SOME OF THAT ADDITIONAL INCOME.

QUALITY BEEF NETWORK:
ONE WAY FOR RANCHERS TO GROW MARGINS AND INCREASE PROFITS IS TO ADD VALUE TO THEIR CATTLE BEFORE SENDING THEM TO MARKET. THAT ALLOWS BUYERS TO SEE LESS RISK AND MORE POTENTIAL IN THE NEXT STAGE OF PRODUCTION. IN THIS REPORT FROM OKLAHOMA STATE'S SUN-UP PROGRAM, KATIE REAM TAKES US TO THE OKLAHOMA CITY STOCKYARDS FOR THE SALE.

MARKETING RALLY:
IN AGRIBUSINESS, WE WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT 2010 MARKETING RALLY WILL BE HELD NEXT WEEK - - DECEMBER FIRST AND SECOND. IT'S BEING HELD IN SAINT CHARLES, ILLINOIS. WE'VE ASSEMBLED AN IMPRESSIVE PANEL OF MARKETING EXPERTS TO HELP IMPROVE YOUR BOTTOM LINE. SPACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE. GO TO MARKETING RALLY DOT COM FOR INFORMATION.

SUNSPOTS:
WE DECIDED TO GIVE MIKE HOFFMAN THE DAY OFF, BUT NOT BEFORE HE DID SOME RESEARCH FOR US. YOU MAY NOT HAVE NOTICED, BUT THE SUN HAS BEEN ACTING OUT OF CHARACTER LATELY. DURING THE PAST FEW YEARS, THERE HAVE BEEN VERY FEW SUNSPOTS - - 800 DAYS WITH NO SUNSPOTS. AND THAT HASN'T HAPPENED IN 300 YEARS. AS MIKE TELLS US, LITTLE CHANGES IN THE SUN CAN HAVE AN IMPACT ON OUR LIVES.

IN THE COUNTRY; LAMBS AT SCHOOL:
THERE'S PROBABLY NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY THAN TO CARE FOR ANOTHER LIVING THING. THAT'S A REAL-LIFE LESSON FOR VOCATIONAL STUDENTS AT A TENNESSEE HIGH SCHOOL. THEY’RE RESPONSIBLE FOR RAISING LAMBS. AS CHUCK DENNEY TELLS US, THESE STUDENTS HAVE NEVER TOUCHED A FARM ANIMAL... BEFORE THIS CLASS. CHUCK SAYS THIS IS THE FIFTH YEAR FOR THIS PROGRAM AT PORTLAND HIGH SCHOOL. MORE THAN 400 STUDENTS HAVE TAKEN THE CLASS DURING THAT TIME. HOLIDAY RISK TO KIDS...NEXT IN FOOD AND YOUR FAMILY.

HOLIDAY PARTY HAZARDS:
IT MAY SEEM LIKE A HAPPY, HARMLESS, HOLIDAY PARTY. BUT THIS MORNING'S FOOD AND YOUR FAMILY REVEALS SOME OF THE HAZARDS - - ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN. IN THIS REPORT FROM NATIONWIDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, CLARK POWELL SHOWS US A PARTY FROM A KID'S PERSPECTIVE. CLARK SAYS ONE OF THE BIGGEST DANGERS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS CANDLES LEFT UN-ATTENDED.
