TODAY ON AGDAY
JANUARY 9, 2013

MONSANTO EARNINGS:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS.  MONSANTO IS OFF TO A STRONG START THIS YEAR AS ITS PROFITS NEARLY TRIPLED IN THE FIRST FISCAL QUARTER OF THE NEW YEAR.

BELTWIDE COTTON CONFERENCE:

CHINA COULD BE SHAKING-UP THE COTTON MARKET AS IT DECIDED TO RELEASE COTTON FROM ITS STATE RESERVES. THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN STOCKPILING THE FIBER SINCE LATE 2011. USDA SAYS CHINA CONTROLS NEARLY HALF OF THE WORLD'S RAW COTTON STOCKS. TYNE MORGAN JOINS US FROM THE BELTWIDE COTTON CONFERENCES IN SAN ANTONIO TEXAS WHERE THE INDUSTRY IS WATCHING CHINA'S MOVES.

LSU AGWRAP:

THANKS TYNE.  LOWER COTTON PRICES DID NOT HELP LOUISIANA FARMERS THIS YEAR.  BUT MOST OTHER COMMODITIES DID VERY WELL. WHILE MUCH OF THE COUNTRY BAKED IN HEAT AND DROUGHT, LOUISIANA - FOR THE MOST PART - ENJOYED TIMELY RAINS. LSU AGCENTER CORRESPONDENT TOBIE BLANCHARD HAS THE DETAILS.

CROP WATCH:

PARTS OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS ARE ENJOYING SNOW COVER FOR THEIR WHEAT. AND DRY CONDITIONS LINGER OFF THE MAINLAND. MIKE HOFFMAN HAS DETAILS IN CROPWATCH, GOOD MORNING MIKE.

ANALYSIS:

IN AGRIBUSINESS TODAY, WE'VE GOT OUR EYE ON THE 2013 PLANTING SEASON. AND THE BIG QUESTION ON EVERYONE'S MIND, WILL WE GET ENOUGH MOISTURE THIS WINTER AND SPRING TO BE DROUGHT FREE COME PLANTING TIME. AL PELL ASKS MARKET GOLD WHAT IT MEANS FOR MARKETS IN THIS MORNING'S ANALYSIS.

PORK AWARD:

LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA IS KNOWN FOR ITS SCENIC ROLLING HILLS, AMISH COMMUNITIES AND ACTIVE DAIRY INDUSTRY. BUT JEFF AND SUE FREY {FRY} ARE GETTING ATTENTION FOR THEIR HOG-FINISHING OPERATION. THEY'VE BEEN NAMED AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARD BY THE NATIONAL PORK BOARD. IN THIS REPORT PROVIDED BY THE CHECKOFF, CINDY CUNNINGHAM TAKES US TO "FUTURE VIEW FARMS".

FRUIT DEMAND:

WHEN YOU GRAB A SNACK TO MUNCH ON, WHAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU GO FOR - SOMETHING SALTY AND CRUNCHY. OR HOW ABOUT CHOCOLATE. AS IT TURNS OUT A GROWING NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE GRABBING FRESH FRUIT.

DUNKIN DONUTS:

AND IT APPEARS GLUTEN FREE PRODUCTS WILL CONTINUE TO RISE IN THE NEW YEAR.
