ANALYSIS BASTING:
HERE AT THE AGRIBUSINESS DESK WE'RE TALKING TO BRIAN BASTING OF ADVANCE TRADING AND WE TALKED RECENTLY ABOUT THE CONTROL OF THE 2014 CROP BUT THEN I'M THINKING ALREADY THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVEN'T BEEN THINKING MUCH ABOUT 2015 NEXT YEAR'S CROP THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE BEFORE WE EVEN START PLANTING. KEEP IN MIND ABOUT 2015 AL IS THAT AS A PRODUCER IF YOU MADE A COMMITMENT TO GROW CORN FOR EXAMPLE IN 2015 AND LOCK DOWN SOME INPUT COST WHATEVER IT MAYBE SEED WHATEVER IT MAY BE YOU MUST START LOCKING DOWN YOUR PRICE BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOUR JUST ASSUMING THAT THE MARKET IS GOING TO GO HIGHER FROM WHERE IT IS TODAY. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SELLING PRICE OR INPUT PRICES OR BOTH... TALKING ABOUT ONCE YOU'VE MADE THAT INPUT PRICE COMMITMENT... OKAY. TO LOCK DOWN SOME OF THOSE 15 PRICE FOR YOURE  FOR YOUR CORN PRODUCTION YOU GOT TO LOOK AT IT AS A MARGIN BECAUSE IF YOU DO NOT START TO LOCK DOWN THE PRICE FOR 15 JUST RECENTLY WE SAW THE PRICE FOR DECEMBER 15 CORN FUTURES GO BELOW 4 DOLLAR A BUSHEL. YES. SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT ONCE YOU MAKE THAT COMMITMENT TO GROW CORN FOR EXAMPLE IN 15 THAT YOU GET THAT PRICE SIDE LOCKED DOWN THE OTHER THING ABOUT 15 THAT'S INTERESTING IS WHEN YOU LOOK AT SOME OPTION PREMIUMS BE QUOTED FOR 2015 CORN FOR EXAMPLE THOSE OPTION PREMIUMS ARE MORE ATTRACTIVE THAN THEY'VE BEEN THE LAST COUPLE YEARS BECAUSE MARKET VOLATILITY HAS DECREASED SO THEY'RE A LITTLE MORE AFFORDABLE FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD. SO THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT AND YOU CAN DO IT AT A MORE AFFORDABLE WAY THEN YOU COULD BEFORE BUT YOU REALLY NEED TO ALSO START TO MAKE DECISION BECAUSE SOME GUYS ARE STILL WONDERING I'M GOING TO GROW BEANS OR AM I GOING TO GROW CORN OR MAYBE SOMETHING ELSE. YEA ANYTIME YOU'RE LOOKING AT THOSE DECISIONS OBVIOUSLY IT DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL OPERATIONAL AND YOUR ROTATION ALL THOSE TYPES OF THINGS BUT ONCE YOU MAKE THAT COMMITMENT ONCE YOU MAKE THAT DECISION TO GROW CORN OR BEANS YOU MUST GET THE PRICE SIDE OF YOUR CORN OR BEANS ALSO LOCKED IN BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOU'RE NOT REALLY LOCKING IN THE MARGIN YOUR JUST COUNTING ON THE MARKET TO GO HIGHER AFTER YOU'VE ALREADY MADE THAT DECISION. YOU'RE ON ONE SIDE THE SIDE IS LOCK IN THOSE PRICES SO THAT YOU KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO GET. THERE YOU GO AT LEAST LOCK IN A FLOOR LEAVE THE UPSIDE OPEN. OKAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH BRIAN BASTING OUR GUEST HERE ON AGDAY BACK WITH MORE IN A MOMENT.
