TODAY ON AGDAY
SEPTEMBER 3, 2014

OPEN HEADLINE:
COMING UP TODAY ON AGDAY - CROP PROGRESS SHOWS CROPS ARE GOOD BUT MATURITY IS LAGGING...WHEAT HARVEST FACES SOME SERIOUS DELAYS. PLUS…THE 2014 APPLE CROP...IN AGRIBUSINESS...STORAGE WARS... AND SOME SMALL TOWN FIRE DEPARTMENTS SEE A BIG IMPACT FROM THE USE OF GLOBAL POSITIONING EQUIPMENT. AGDAY BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE ALL NEW CHEVY SILVERADO - THE 2014 NORTH AMERICAN TRUCK OF THE YEAR.
WORLD GRAIN STOCKS:
MEANWHILE ON THE GLOBAL GRAIN FRONT, THE INTERNATIONAL GRAINS COUNCIL IS FORECASTING CORN INVENTORIES TO HIT A 27 YEAR HIGH. IT RAISED IT'S EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WORLD CROP PUTTING STOCKS AT THEIR HIGHEST POINT SINCE 1987 -- 88. THE WHEAT OUTLOOK ALSO HIGHER...FORECAST AT A RECORD OF MORE THAN 700 MILLION TONS.
MICHIGAN APPLES:
CLINTON…IT APPEARS THERE'LL BE AN ABUNDANCE OF APPLES THIS FALL. THE U-S APPLE ASSOCIATION AND THE AG DEPARTMENT ARE BOTH PROJECTING BIG CROPS IN MOST OF THE BIG APPLE PRODUCING REGIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, TOUGH WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS PAST WINTER AND SUMMER ARE CAUSED SOME PRODUCTION PROBLEMS IN PARTS OF MICHIGAN - THE NATION'S NUMBER THREE APPLE GROWER.
AGDAY NATIONAL REPORTER BETSY JIBBEN HAS OUR STORY.
CROP WATCH:
SOME MIDWEST FARMERS SAY LATE SEASON DISEASES ARE A BIG PROBLEM IN THEIR FIELDS. MIKE HOFFMAN HAS DETAILS IN CROP WATCH.
TEASE:
CLINTON…STILL TO COME WE'LL TALK ABOUT UPCOMING 'STORAGE WARS' AS FARMERS HEAD TOWARDS HARVEST.
AG INVESTMENTS:
IN AGRIBUSINESS BLOOMBERG IS REPORTING THAT THE INVESTMENT SURGE INTO U.S. AG FUNDS IS FLOUNDERING. IT’S FINDING THAT WITH RECORD CROPS EXPECTED AND GROWING MEAT SUPPLIES, AG ISN'T ENTICING INVESTORS. EXCHANGE TRADED PRODUCTS HAVE NOW SEEN A NET OUTFLOW OF NEARLY 60 MILLION DOLLARS. THAT'S DOWN 3 PERCENT. SPECULATOR BETS ON AN AGRICULTURAL RALLY ARE DOWN ALMOST 80 PERCENT SINCE APRIL OF THIS YEAR.
ANALYSIS INTRO:
AS FARMERS GET SET TO HARVEST, SOME ARE FACING A STORAGE WAR OF SORTS--PUSHING OLD CROP OUT OF THE WAY TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW. FARM DIRECTOR AL PELL JOINS US WITH A DISCUSSION IN STORAGE.
ANALYSIS:
TOMMY GRISAFI ADVANCE TRADING OUR GUEST HERE AT THE AGRIBUSINESS DESK AND WE WERE JUST TALKING OFF CAMERA ABOUT SOMETHING THAT'S REALLY INTERESTING AND THAT IS THAT THE AMOUNT OF GRAIN BINS THAT HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN BUILT AND STORAGE A LOT OF THEM HAVE A LOT OF GOOD GRAIN IN THEM BUT YOU MADE A COMMENT YOU ME TELL ME ABOUT THAT COMMENT THAT YOU JUST MADE. AL YOU I TRAVEL A LOT ACROSS A LOT OF THE COUNTRY AND WHEN I'M DRIVING I JUST GET IN AWE OF THESE NEW GRAIN BINS GOING UP. SURE. AND I ALSO THINK TO YOUR POINT WHEN THE USDA NUMBERS COME OUT IT'S HARD FOR ALL OF US TO KEEP TRACK OF WHERE THE GRAIN CAUSE A LOT OF ONSITE STORAGE IS GOING ON BUT WHAT I SAID OFF CAMERA WAS YOU KNOW THOSE GRAIN BINS THEY'RE REALLY POWERFUL TOOL AND THEY'RE PRETTY NEAT THEY CAN HELP YOU CATCH THE CARRY THEY CAN HELP YOU TAKE $3.60 CORN AND CARRY IT UP TO 4 HERE IN JULY I SAID YOU KNOW AL THEY ALSO SOMETIMES HAVE TAKEN 7 DOLLAR CORN AND TURNED IT INTO 4 TO AND THAT'S A LITTLE SECRET ABOUT GRAIN BINS PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TO TALK ABOUT IT'S FUN TO COME ON THIS SHOW AND SAY THINGS FARMERS WANT TO HEAR THE TRUTH IS SOME GUYS STORED THEIR GRAIN JUST A LITTLE TOO LONG AND THEY TURNED OLD CROP BUSHELS THAT WERE WORTH A LOT OF MONEY IN TODAY'S CURRENT PRICES AND THAT'S A LESSON TO BE LEARNED ABOUT GRAIN BINS AND I SEE A LOT MORE OF THEM GOING UP THEN COMING DOWN BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW USE THAT TOOL AND JUST LIKE A HAMMER IF YOU HIT THE WRONG WAY YOU MIGHT HIT YOUR THUMB AND THAT HURTS AND I THINK THAT'S WHAT THE AMERICAN FARMER DID WITH SOME OF THAT LEFTOVER GRAIN FROM THE YEAR PAST. BUT YOU CAN'T BLAME THE MAN YOU HAVE TO BLAME THE FARMER BECAUSE HE WAS OUT THERE AND HE SAID WELL THIS 7 DOLLAR GOING IS GOING TO GET 8 DOLLARS SO HE JUST GOING TO LEAVE IT OUT THERE AND NOW HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT AS HE KEPT GOING DOWN AND NOW IT'S LESS THAN 4 DOLLARS. WE ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE AT ADVANCE TRADING WHEN THEIR DOING MARKETING THAT NOT DOING ANYTHING IS A CHOICE THAT IS A TRADE YOU COULD BUY YOU COULD SELL AND YOU COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AND DOING NOTHING IS A TRADE THAT HAS AN ACTION THAT CAN FOLLOW UP AND SOMETIMES THAT ACTIONS POSITIVE TO YOUR BALANCE SHEET AND SOMETIMES THAT ACTION IS NEGATIVE IT'S THE ULTIMATELY THOSE BUSHELS ARE THE FARMERS BUSHELS AND IT'S THEIR JOB TO MARKET THEM IT'S SOMEONE LIKE MY JOB TO HELP AND COACH AND GIVE ADVICE AND TALK ABOUT STORIES AND WHAT IFS AND WHAT NOT BUT THE GRAIN BINS ARE A WONDERFUL TOOL BUT THEY NEED TO BE USED IN THE PROPER WAY. NEED TO BE MANAGED JUST LIKE THE MONEY. ABSOLUTELY!  AND THE TRACTOR AND EVERYTHING ELSE THANK YOU VERY MUCH TOMMY GRISAFI OUR GUEST HERE ON AGDAY.
