ALERT Jan. 29, 2014 -- Nitrogen & Phosphate

January 29, 2014 04:25 AM

Nitrogen prices are currently showing strong signs of a reversal. Get out in front of the coming recovery by booking another 30% of spring/summer N needs to get to 80% covered on UAN and urea and at least 60% covered on ammonia (click here for more).

UAN/Urea -- Northern suppliers are behind on resupply and UAN/urea production runs in Canada and the United States are reported to be sold out for at least 60 days. The coming resupply will rely on increased domestic production and imports, placing upside price risk on both UAN and urea. Get covered up to 80% on UAN and urea today.

Anhydrous -- Current anhydrous ammonia prices are unsustainable and as other forms of N move higher, anhydrous will follow in kind. Get covered up to 60% on spring/summer NH3. We will increase coverage again on confirmation of the bounce... probably in the next few weeks.

Phosphate -- Sources also indicate phosphate supplies are in the same situation as UAN and urea and prices are expected to climb near term. We have already noted strength here and now advise to extend spring DAP/MAP coverage to 80%.
