Anhydrous Action

February 25, 2013 07:35 AM

Anhydrous ammonia gained $3.00 this week in the Inputs Monitor Regional Index after falling $0.50 cents regionwide last week.

Minnesota NH3 jumped $20.00 after having shed $3.00 the previous week. Michigan was not far behind gaining $11.00 over the previous week after spending three weeks steady at $905.00 and three weeks at $899.00. Nebraska added $4.00 to $822.00 and Kansas, North Dakota and Iowa all added one dollar to statewide anhydrous average pricing.

These pricing movements suggest a low for anhydrous is in place -- or was last week. Four states remain unchanged this week, two of which -- Illinois and South Dakota -- have been unchanged for three full weeks after gaining slightly during the first week of February. One could easily argue that the buying window for NH3 in Minnesota and Michigan has come and gone, and the declines in this week's prices are only a dollar for Wisconsin and a dollar for Missouri.

This is 'ya snooze ya looze' time. If you have NH3 purchases to make before the spring plant, look closely at the table below to see how NH3 has treated your state in the past three weeks. Bear in mind that two weeks spent unchanged generally increases the probability of a price hike the following week. As always, check local pricing with your preferred supplier to see if now is a good time for you to top off before spring.
