Aussie Scientists: Tropcial Pacific Slowly Warming

June 19, 2012 01:23 AM

The Australia Bureau of Meteorology says climate indicators remain at neutral (neither El Niño nor La Niña) levels, but the tropical Pacific continues to slowly warm. The majority of models point to El Nino thresholds being exceeded by the end of the Southern Hemisphere winter (Northern Hemsiphere summer).

"Large parts of eastern Australia are usually, but not always, drier than normal in winter and spring during El Niño events," states the bureau, which points to troubles with the wheat crop.

Juli says: The longer it takes El Nino to develop, the less beneficial impacts to the U.S. growing season.
