Bayer and MS Technologies gained EU food and feed approval for the upcoming soybean trait technology Balance GT. The product will be accepted for import into the region.
“Farmers will benefit from effective, cross-spectrum weed control and an excellent weed resistance management tool,” says Frank Terhorst, Bayer’s head of seeds business unit.
The new trait allows farmers to use HPPD inhibitors (group 27) and glyphosate (group 9) to control weeds. Currently the trait's complementary herbicide, Balance Bean (group 27), is not approved for use in soybeans.
“We are well on track to deliver this technology in high-yielding, best-in-class soybean varieties developed by MS Technologies,” says Joseph Merschman, president of MS Technologies.
Bayer and MS Technologies have collaborated on this product since 2007 and anticipate a U.S. launch in 2017, pending final key import approvals.
