Best-In-Class Farmers Sought for Top Business Award

Less than two months remain to apply for the 2017 Top Producer of the Year award. This prestigious honor goes to top operators who demonstrate outstanding business knowledge in areas such as entrepreneurship, financial progress and community leadership.

You may either nominate yourself or another farm operator within your business, or you may nominate a farmer in your life who is deserving of this recognition. Applications are due Aug. 31, 2016.

To be eligible for the award, producers must meet the following criteria:

  • Earn at least half of his/her income from farming and farm-related ventures
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial originality (50%), financial and business progress (30%) and industry or community leadership (20%)
  • Submit the official entry form along with two letters of reference from an accountant, banker or agribusiness leader
  • Agree to be recognized in articles published in Top Producer magazine and online

The 2016 winners of the Top Producer of the Year award are Donald and Cheri De Jong of Hartley, Texas. Prizes included a trip for two to the 2016 Top Producer Seminar, a lease of a Case IH tractor for six months, membership in Farm Journal’s Top Producer Executive Network (TPEN) peer group program, CEO consulting sessions and other prizes.
