Chinese exports decreased 1 percent last month compared to last year. That's according to the customs administration.
The decline compares with a more than three percent rise in exports in July. China's exports to the U.S. tumbled 16 percent in August.
China's trade surplus, a measure of how much its exports exceed imports by value, fell to just under $35 billion.
That’s far below analysts' expectations and nearly $10 billion less than July.
