COOL Retaliation and its Impact on the U.S.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body will soon rule on Canada and Mexico’s case against the U.S. on the mandatory Country of Origin Label (COOL) requirement on muscle cuts of beef and pork. This is the fourth and final decision by the WTO, and in the three previous decisions it has ruled against the U.S. COOL law.

If the U.S. loses this case, Canada and Mexico have indicated their intention to retaliate on hundreds of U.S. products, ranging from meat and fruit to jewelry, furniture, and biofuels. Pending arbitration, retaliation claimed by Canada and Mexico could be economically devastating.

Canada and Mexico are our top export partners, and these preferred relationships are vital to our local and national economies. The tariffs would harm companies and threaten jobs in every state. Find out the impact COOL would have on a wide range of products in your state and their export value by clicking here. The figures are estimated based on the preliminary retaliation list provided by Canada and past retaliatory tariffs implemented by Mexico.

It's a shame that you must lie to promote your agenda. Canada and Mexico must PROVE that COOL harmed their trade with us before any "retaliatory" tariffs can be imposed. Why do you continually leave that out? NAFTA has benefited Canada and Mexico to a much greater extent than it has helped the U.S. The Canadian cow that was wrongly identified as "ours" in 2003 has hurt us much more than COOL. Why did we allow that to happen? And why aren't we seeking redress for that with the WTO, or the OIE? Without trade with us, they would dry up and blow away. It may just be time to let them.

This article is crap ;lose jobs in every state, all are jobs left our state when clinton signed the free trade deal. They sell us almost 400 billion a year in commerce and us almost half that back to them. Why we tolerate this from such ding country's is because of our wall street government . Its a real shame to all the hard working men and women of this nation. If we took all the common sense in Washington and turned it into gasoline there won;t be enough to power a piss ants motorcycle around a BB.
