It’s Election Day in Canada as the country holds its federal elections. The election will decide whether liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is allowed to remain in power. Polls show the race is close with Andrew Scheer, who is his Conservative Party rival.

Climate change, health care, and the economy are some of the top issues Canadians are voting on today. However, both candidates have different opinions when it comes to the dairy industry and trade. Canada has a different system than the United States with its quotas and market share. Many of the country’s dairy farmers are upset with the market access the industry will lose with multiple trade deals, including the trilateral trade deal between the United States, Mexico and Canada (USMCA).
Both the United States and Canada have to ratify USMCA before it’s a done deal.
