Crop Conditions Virtually Unchanged

July 12, 2010 02:02 PM

USDA Condition reports show almost no change from last week, with most crops in far better condition than average and progress well ahead of last year. Changes in the bottom two categories also are negligible.

Seventy-one percent of corn is in the Good or Excellent category, with 38% silking vs. a 25% five-year average and only 15% last year.

At 65% Good or Excellent, soybeans are about average; blooming is reported at 40%, slightly ahead of the 37% average and well beyond last year’s 22%.

Cotton condition is 67% good or excellent, up from 65% last week and 43% last year, with 79% squaring and 26% setting bolls.
