Last April, I drove down to Madison, Wis., to be on hand for the ground-breaking ceremony for the new, $24 million dairy barns at World Dairy Expo.

A few weeks ago, I happened to be in Madison again, and I drove over to the Alliant Energy Center grounds to get a sneak peek at the progress. At ground level, it’s bit hard to appreciate the full scale of these two buildings.

But as I stood at the northeast corner of the construction site, I got an angled view. My goodness—these things are massive. The first of the two New Holland Pavilions, as they will be trademarked, is 90,000 sq. ft. The second is 200,000 sq. ft. Totaled, there are nearly seven acres
under roof—ready to house more than 2,000 dairy cattle come Expo week.

It’s hard to believe contractors were able to demolish the nine original barns and have these new facilities fully functional in less than six months. But they will.
