December Dairy Continuing Education Courses in Iowa

The Dairy Center through Northeast Iowa Community College will be hosting several continuing education courses this December:

Artificial Insemination-Bovine
This is a 3-day, intensive hands-on class for those who wish to AI their own cattle or gain experience to work for others. The class will cover all aspects of bovine reproduction, from anatomy and hormones to heat detection. Support materials such a “Breeding Betsy” and an endoscope will be available for practice before going to the barn. Students have actual insemination practice on cattle at Iowa’s Dairy Center. Seating is limited and preregistration is required.

What’s All the Mooing About? Robotic Milking 101
Dairy producers using this cutting edge technology are spreading the word about the benefits of robotic milking. Join this workshop, held at Iowa’s Robotic Dairy Center in Calmar, Iowa where you will hear and see for yourself how robotics is revolutionizing dairy operations. Rick Rugg of Lely North America, will address and demonstrate many aspects of robotic milking, including history of the technology, barn design, financing options and general data information.

Managing a Dairy Herd with Robotics
Robotic technology changes the way dairy producers manage their herds in many ways. From a single computer, producers can access and utilize information from over 120 data points per cow. This workshop addresses the basics of computer records and reports, and how to use the information generated by robotics to make management decisions about the dairy operation. Held at Iowa’s Robotic Dairy Center in Calmar, Iowa and led by Gaylen Guyer, Farm Management Support, Lely North America, this is a valuable opportunity to learn from experts in the robotic milking field.
