Don't Risk the Future of Your Farm

Succession Planning Workshop for Farmers on July 6 in Loveland

Your farm’s succession plan is important, but it is hard to make it urgent. You can do just that by attending a Farm Journal Legacy Project Workshop on July 6 in Loveland, Colo.

This workshop will feature three speakers who will cover the vital ins and outs of succession and estate planning. Topics the speaker will cover include:

  • Taking inventory of your current situation
  • Having critical conversations with key stakeholders
  • Identifying ways to involve on-farm and off-farm heirs
  • Reducing your estate tax risk
  • Planning and executing a family meeting
  • Building a post-retirement cash flow
  • Identifying the proper legal structure for your business
  • Creating and managing a collaborative succession planning team

Davon Cook, partner with Ag Progress, provides facilitation, mediation, management consulting and family business advisory services specialized for agriculture ventures and peer groups. Davon helps clients navigate through a variety of situations, including succession planning, strategic management initiatives and estate planning.

During the workshop she will explain how to construct a succession plan, have critical conversations with stakeholders and assemble a helpful team of advisors.

CPA Paul Neiffer, with CliftonLarsonAllen, will explain the advantages and disadvantages of various entity structures and how to transfer assets and ownership. Attorney Peter Scott, with Coan Payton & Payne, headquartered in Fort Collins, will cover the legal aspects of succession planning.
