Dressed Cattle Weights Steady, Hog Weights Climb

Following is the Total Red Meat Production Report for the week ending Sept. 10:

 Estimated Weekly Meat Production Under Federal Inspection

     Total red meat production under Federal inspection for the week
ending Saturday, September 10, 2011 was estimated at 848.4 million lbs.
according to the U.S.Department of Agriculture's Marketing Service.
This was 9.6 percent lower than a week ago and 0.2 percent higher
than a year ago.  Cumulative meat production for the year to date was
0.5 percent higher compared to the previous year.

Juli says: While dressed hog weights climbed a pound a this week, they are still 3 lbs. below year-ago levels. Dressed cattle weights are seven pounds below year-ago levels.
