Editor's Notebook: It All Comes Back to the Seed

Before joining Farm Journal, I worked in seed sales. When I visited with farmers in my territory, I was amazed by how many didn’t realize the impact seed selection has on long-term success. As I talk with farmers today, many are interested in learning more about how the seed reaches them, how technology is integrated into the seed and the efficacy of the products they use.

Every year, farmers face hundreds of decisions. Wouldn’t it be easier to have all the information you need to make seed selections in one place? In a world where traits reign supreme, seed treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all and market prices lead to tough decisions, many farmers appreciate additional support.

This year’s Seed Guide is meant to provide enough information to make sure you ask the right questions and help you make informed seed purchasing decisions. It’s important to turn to your seed and chemical providers for their expertise, but you’ll get further faster if you come to the conversation prepared.

As you make decisions throughout the year, it all comes back to seed selection, and a good or a bad choice can have a lasting impact on your livelihood.
