Electronic Warehouse Receipts Replacing Paper

 USDA is testing an electronic warehouse receipt system for farmers and warehouse operators in selected counties in eight states this year. If you farm in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, the Dakotas or Texas and need a receipt for the CCC loan program, for instance, your elevator may ask you to accept an electronic warehouse receipt (EWR) verified through eGrain Inc. in Springfield, Ill.

EWRs already are accepted by some lenders as proof of stored grain for collateral or transfer of ownership.
