While enrollment has generally started Oct. 1 for the Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment (DCP) and Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) programs, enrollment for the 2012 DCP and ACRE programs will not commence until Jan. 23, 2012, according to USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA).

The reasons for 2012 DCP/ACRE enrollment not starting until Jan. 23, 2012, according to FSA:

– to allow time to begin signup for the 2010 Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE);

– to allow time to finalize supplemental agricultural disaster assistance programs; and

– because there are no advance direct payments for 2012, there is not an incentive for producers to enroll early.

FSA also says that elections for the 2012 ACRE program can be made any time before June 1, 2012.
