ENSO Values Remain Neutral

January 3, 2013 12:23 AM

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology says neutral ENSO conditions (neither El Niño nor La Niña) persist in the tropical Pacific Ocean and will likely remain neutral the first quarter of 2013.

The bureau says sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific are neutral with warmer-than-normal waters in central and western regions and some cooler-than-normal areas in the far east. "All dynamical models surveyed by the Bureau of Meteorology suggest that sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific will maintain values in the neutral range at least until the end of the first quarter of 2013," it states.
