Farm Bureau Leader Calls 2018 Banner Year for Policy

January 15, 2019 11:56 AM

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Convention opened with a speech from current President Zippy Duvall. Duvall shared the successes of the organization over the past 100 years.

While running down a list of successes, Duvall cited everything from standing with one united voice to the passage of the first Farm Bill and included the recent changes to the "Waters of the U.S." rule under the Clean Water Act.

He called on members to take part in the public comment period on the new proposal.

Duvall also calling on President Trump to seek solidarity with other countries in the trade battle with China.

"The trade war in China is going be a long one and we keep delivering the message, we're with you Mr. President, we understand it, but we need to make sure the rest of the world is helping you," says Duvall. "China is not just mistreating us they mistreating the whole world."

Duvall said that as bad as 2018 was for farm income, the year will go down in American Farm Bureau history as one of the most productive agricultural policy years in its history.

Most productive year in history? Give me a break. WOTUS, ok, I'll give you that one. The farm bill was a continued give away to huge corporate farms and corporate agribusiness at the expense of small and moderate sized farmers. And don't even get me started on a failed trade policy.

From it's inception, the FB was NEVER a friend of the average farmer. In fact, originally most of it's members were people who lived in the towns and city. This can be looked up easily. Many business leaders and women, old maids, etc., were the most of it's members in the 20s and 30s.

Great year for policy? Hardly, we passed a number of resolutions to fix wetland issues that radical organizations like Ducks Unlimited support, nothing happened! The inmates are running the asylum!! What about these communist based permanent easements, nothing done there either! My only pleasure left is to deny wealthy out of state hunters who are DU members hunting privileges, and I have great hunting ground! Not much hope going forward, considering a country that elects a radical communist like ocasio-cortez.
