Farmer Poll Shows Snapshot of Seed Costs

July 28, 2012 05:13 PM

This map depicts about 800 farmer responses to the question: What is the average price per bag you paid for corn seed in 2012 (or 80k unit if you buy in bulk)?

With new breeding advances and ever-changing technologies, farmers are seeing more benefits—and costs—in each unit of seed.
In a recent Farm Journal Pulse text survey, 56% of the 800 farmers who responded said they spend $200 to $259 per unit of seed. Seven percent told us they spend more than $300 per unit.
The respondents represented a large portion of the northern Corn Belt.
