A proposed change to federal clean-water regulations is drawing criticism from members of a Nebraska farm group.
Morrill County Farm Bureau President Jeff Metz criticized the proposal Tuesday in testimony before the Senate Agriculture Committee.
The Nebraska Farm Bureau and its members say the proposal would subject farms and ranches to new permitting and reporting requirements without benefiting the environment.
Metz, of Angora, was invited to speak by U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse. Sasse says the proposed rule change amounts to federal overreach by bureaucrats who are trying to regulate "puddles and ditches."
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency proposed the change to reduce confusion over which streams and wetlands fall under the Clean Water Act.
