Farmers Nearly Finished With #Plant16

For some growers, it's time to celebrate. Their crop is in and starting to thrive. According to USDA's June 6 Crop Progress report, 98% of corn is planted, which is 1 percentage point above the 5-year average. The agency also said that 90% of the crop has emerged, with 75% in good to excellent condition.

For others, though, a wet spring has made #plant16 a slog, with numerous delays due to rainy weather and soggy fields.

With corn planting done, it's now time to concentrate on soybeans for many farmers. USDA said on Monday that 83% of soybeans have been planted, with 65% emerged. So far, 72% of this year's soybean crop is considered good to excellent, according to USDA.
