Spend just five minutes a day charting your local basis and you can become a better marketer within six months, Mark Gold, managing partner with Top Third Ag Marketing, told farmers at the Farm Journal Media Marketing Rally, held today in Chicago.
"Call the elevator every day, get the local basis and put that pencil to paper,” Gold suggests. "You will never know when its time to sell something, or at least lock in a basis, unless you track it every day.”
If the elevator knows you are tracking this basis, the elevator is going to call you first when they need to fill a train because they know you understand the value of that grain, Gold adds.
