Gasoline and Diesel Weekly -- Declines Continue, Farm Diesel Threatens Increase

April 24, 2013 08:37 AM

nozzleNational gasoline prices continued to move lower during this report week. Farm diesel fell slightly and highway diesel moved lower again at all U.S. locations.

Farm Diesel --

Farm diesel was unchanged in last week's Monitor Index with Iowa showing the only movement, adding a penny. This week, farm diesel pricing shook loose, but showed little movement in the regionwide average. Iowa and Minnesota each shed a full dime followed by a $0.07 decline in Nebraska and a $0.06 reduction in Indiana.

Missouri gives cause for concern here as growers in that state have been able to get a start on early spring fieldwork. The result of this activity has been a dramatic increase in fertilizer pricing in that state. Farm diesel has also responded with a $0.07 increase of its own -- the largest farm diesel increase in this week's index. We will be watching this movement carefully as the southern Belt may signal things to come up north, once fieldwork begins in earnest (read more).
