Gasoline and Diesel Weekly: Highway Fuels Surge, Farm Diesel Slips

July 16, 2013 05:49 AM

WTI remains at the top of its range and the increases have trickled down to fuel costs. Highway fuels rose dramatically in response to higher U.S. crude pricing while a sturdy distillate supply held farm diesel in check.nozzle

Farm Diesel --

Farm diesel moved just over 1/2 cent lower during the report week to $3.355/gallon according to Inputs Monitor data with half of the twelve states in our Index unchanged. The price at the same time last year was $3.17 -- 18 1/2 cents below today's price.

Wisconsin led decliners by dropping 9 cents to $3.43; Minnesota 2 cents lower to $3.39 and Nebraska rounds out our hat trick of decliners falling one penny to $3.25. Currently, the least expensive farm diesel can be found in Missouri which is unchanged this week at $3.22 -- 13 1/2 cents below the regional average.

This same week last year marked the first week-over increase, and the uptrend continued from there up to $3.78 before falling again in December. We expect farm diesel pricing to begin to inflate, and follow last year's pattern. We are recommending you take a look at your local pricing, and if the price is right, go ahead and get a portion of that farm diesel booked.
