The Giumarra Cos., Los Angeles, will have more volume of Lemonade apples, and more marketing to promote them.

It’s the third year that Giumarra is the exclusive marketer of the apple, which is grown in New Zealand. There are plans to grow the apples in North America, according to Jason Bushong, Division manager of Giumarra Wenatchee (Wash.).

“We know from market research that apples are still one of consumers’ most-purchased items in the produce department,” Bushong said in a news release. “Consumers are seeking new, exciting flavors, and Lemonade is a unique variety that fits the bill. It’s a striking yellow apple and the flavor is refreshing and tangy-sweet, with a hint of effervescence.”

The first Lemonade shipments of the season arrive in the U.S. at the end of May, at East and West Coast ports. The season ends in August.

“Our fresh crop Lemonade apples have an outstanding texture that delivers an elevated eating experience to consumers to keep them coming back for repeat purchases all season long,” Bushong said in the release.

A new website, www.lemonadeapple.com informs consumers about the apple’s attributes.

“We look forward to helping our retail customers increase sales by leveraging our website and providing additional marketing support such as in-store creative materials, demos and social media,” Gary Caloroso, regional business director for Giumarra, said in the release.
