Nitrogen fertilizer applications after harvest are overdue for an overhaul, according to Tom Evans, vice president of sales and marketing for Great Plains Manufacturing.
Evans says leaching and volatilization of fall applied fertilizer have become overly expensive and unacceptable.
“Farmers will be able to put their fertilizer on three or four days prior to planting,” he says. “That means they won’t have to worry about it leaching, and it’s completely available to the crop.”
The company is introducing its new Nutri-Pro Fertilizer Bar to support farmers who want to make the switch to spring applications.
According to Evans, the Nitro-Pro offers producers a number of benefits; it allows the producer to pre-apply liquid fertilizer prior to planting, clear the residue with the row cleaners and do mild tillage.
“Farmers need a fertilizer program that is environmentally friendly, friendly to the bottom line and one that helps them utilize every pound of nitrogen they purchased,” Evans says,
The Nutri-Pro, available in 30- to 40-foot working widths, incorporates a leading coulter followed by an anhydrous knife, a single 20” Vantage liquid coulter, or a double row-cleaner three-coulter system.
According to a company news release, “Nutri-Pro is available as a floating-tongue pull-type model, 3-point mounted unit or semi-mounted unit with life assist wheels. In addition, all models fold to 17’ 4” or less for easy transport.
