Introducing the RotaryMATE EXPD . . . the first in a family of robot-assisted automation for rotary milking parlors.
Green Source Automation has combined the performance and efficiency of a rotary milking parlor with the consistency and accuracy of a commercial robot. The RotaryMate EXPD (external, pre/post disinfection) system is the first phase of robot-assisted automation designed for rotary milking facilities. By eliminating key labor positions, the RotaryMATE EXPD is able to provide consistent and accurate performance, saving labor costs and increasing the rotary's operating efficiency.
Green Source Automation has integrated a robotic system from FANUC Robotics USA, the leading supplier of commercially available robotic systems in the Americas, with a patented 3-D camera vision system, VisiMAX, developed specifically for this application. This combination allows the system to instantly identify and target individual cow teats for disinfectant application. The system tracks the movement of the rotary, identifies all four cow teats, and applies the disinfectant in less than six seconds per cow, consistently and accurately, 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
"The rotary application is perfect for robotics,” explains Jim Frias, president of Green Source Automation, the company responsible for integrating the Fanuc robotic technology. "A rotary milking parlor works on the same principal as `flow' manufacturing; cows move constantly on and off the rotary, past individual labor positions, and are sanitized before and after they are milked. These jobs are necessary, but boring and monotonous to do. We have combined the efficiency of a rotary milking parlor with the accuracy and consistency of a commercial robot system. This is a first for the industry.”
