Jerry Gulke, president of the Gulke Group, sat down with Pam Fretwell in Chicago at the Executive Women in Agriculture Conference to discuss this week's market movements. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of good news for agriculture this week.
The post-Thanksgiving rally came to a halt by the first week of December. To add insult to injury, corn posted a key weekly reversal and the lowest prices since October. That's not good, Gulke says, especially with a USDA report only a week away.
On the brighter side, the cattle market did see a turnaround this week, which got cattle feeding back up to where it's profitable. Whether this is just a technical trade is unknown but this turnaround, regardless how brief, still opened up some opportunity to lock in profit and even a small profit is a good profit.
