Gulke: Surprises Expected in USDA Stocks Estimates

March 28, 2010 07:00 PM

USDA will release their grain stocks and prospective planting reports on Wednesday, March 31. Jerry Gulke, president of the Gulke Group, expects to see some surprises in the numbers.
The expectations for the report are pretty high, Gulke says, up about half a billion bushels of corn from last year. "If it comes in any where close to that, it would be one of the highest stocks available on March 1, since 1988.”
Gulke says the predicted warm to very warm weather in many parts of the Midwest will definitely affect the markets.
"I would go into this market with coverage on both corn and soybeans,” he says. "Options are probably the best place to be right now.”
