History of Corn College

May 3, 2010 03:34 AM

The series of Farm Journal Corn College events are an extension of the Farm Journal Test Plots that our Field Agronomist Ken Ferrie and Farm Journal Editor Charlene Finck started 19 years ago. The Corn College carries over the same goals: learn how to grow crops better, and share that information with farmers.

Led by Farm Journal Field Agronomist Ken Ferrie and the Corn College crew, the events are packed with take-home corn production knowledge. Joining Ferrie as a presenter is Missy Bauer, Farm Journal Associate Field Agronomist as well as other members of our test plot crew. We also have industry leading experts come to our events to provide their perspective on happenings in the world of agriculture.
The first Farm Journal Corn College was held in 2008 in central Illinois at our main Corn College campus, which allows integration of classroom and in-field instruction. This facility is surrounded by 17 acres of demonstration plots which allow attendees to head out to the field with Ferrie and other agronomic coaches.
In addition to summer events, we have launched a Winter Semester and Planter Clinic. These are additional opportunities for our team to ready farmers to bring their A-game going in to planting season.
