House GOP Lawmakers Demanding Revised Atrazine Assessment

House GOP lawmakers are asking for a revised atrazine assessment.

More than 100 House Republicans want the EPA to trash the agency’s draft ecological risk assessment for the herbicide, which raises concerns about the herbicide’s effects on certain wildlife.

In a letter to Gina McCarthy, an administrator for the EPA, lawmakers wrote about the chemical’s value to corn farmers who use it to fight weeds and its safety record.

The letter also said, “We ask that you take into account the needs of farmers and use sound science when finalizing the ecological risk assessment for atrazine.”
