HungerU Launches at Student Food Security Summit

HungerU will launch its spring 2014 awareness tour from Auburn University and the Universities Fighting World Hunger Global Summit. This spring, HungerU will visit 16 campuses throughout the United States and travel to Washington, D.C., for National Agriculture Day on March 25.

"Food security is the greatest challenge the next generation of leaders will face in their lifetimes," explains Margie Alsbrook, Director of Operations for the Farm Journal Foundation and HungerU. "Helping students understand the serious threat of the hunger crisis, while still inspiring hope so they take action to help, is what HungerU is all about."

HungerU engages college and university students in a dialogue about hunger issues while raising awareness about the power of agricultural development and innovation to combat food insecurity. Students also learn important facts through tools such as the DuPont Global Food Security Index.

The Spring 2014 HungerU tour will visit campuses such as George Washington University, Texas A&M University, the University of Arkansas, Tuskegee University, Louisiana State University and many more. For a full tour schedule, visit

"This tour, we are especially focused on helping students find their voices in the fight against hunger," Alsbrook says. "We have always encountered students with really powerful personal stories they want to tell, and we will be respectfully helping these young people find a larger platform to speak out," says Alsbrook.

The HungerU tour is made possible through the support from sponsor organizations such as DuPont Crop Protection. Students, faculty and fans of HungerU can follow the tour’s progress and engage in conversations about how to combat the hunger crisis by following the hashtags, #hungercantwait and #hungerutour.
