Many farmers have finished up their corn planting for 2010. So, what does early planting mean for the rest of the season and at harvest?
Joe Lauer, University of Wisconsin Extension corn agronomist, says much of the Corn Belt is in pretty good shape with planting progress and emergence. "I've never had corn emerge in April before,” he says.
For those farmers who haven't finished corn planting, Lauer says farmers should look at the maturity dates for their corn seed. "You may need to switch to a shorter-maturity hybrid.”
