Inputs Monitor Iowa Basis - Week Ended 9/28/12

Inputs Monitor Iowa USDA basis stands at -2.12 on a state-state comparison of local fertilizer prices; regional nutrient basis at -2.43. The table below is a side-by-side comparison of prices reported by USDA and prices reported to your Inputs Monitor for the week ended September 28, 2012. Inputs Monitor's Iowa numbers and Inputs Monitor Regional Index numbers are compared separately to USDA findings.

The widest basis in the Iowa vs USDA comparison is again in Anhydrous where USDA pegs the price at $856.00; Inputs Monitor records a -6.6% difference in Iowa at $799.00. Urea drops 13% in the Monitor Regional Index - USDA $687.31 to Inputs Monitor's $597.00 regionally.

All other values come in at-or-below +/-5%. MAP presses the ceiling at $422.00 in Iowa, 4.0% lower than USDA's $688.20 - regionally off 4.7% at $6.55. Iowa Potash showed the thinnest basis, up 0.02% on USDA to $617.00, but falls to the low side regionally, down 2.4% from USDA at $601.67.

Farm diesel four cents lower in the statewide Monitor Index - $3.56 in Iowa, 3.8% lower than USDA's $3.60 - but gains 2.5% regionally - $3.69 regionwide 2.5% above USDA's $3.60. Iowa LP falls within 1.5% at $1.28, jumping to $1.36 in the region, stretching basis to 4.6.

When compared with the Inputs Monitor Regional Index total average for the week, USDA basis currently at -2.43. Statewide, Inputs Monitor values are closer to USDA, off -2.12.
