Inputs Monitor Iowa Basis Analysis - 9/17/12

Inputs Monitor Iowa basis stands at 1.25 on a state-state comparison of local fertilizer prices. Regional nutrient basis stands at 3.13 for the week ended September 14, 2012. The table below is a side-by-side comparison of prices reported by USDA and prices reported to your Inputs Monitor. Inputs Monitor's Iowa numbers and Inputs Monitor Regional Index numbers are compared separately to USDA findings.

The widest basis in the Iowa vs USDA comparison is in Anhydrous where USDA pegs the price at $811.57; Inputs Monitor records a 2% difference to the low side in Iowa at $796.00. Urea came in hot in the Monitor Regional Index, lower by 16% - USDA $736.54 to Inputs Monitor's $624.42 regionally. Beyond that, all other values come in at-or-below +/-5% with the exception of UAN28 which was down 7% in the Monitor's Regional Index at $362.73 to USDA's $389.04.

When compared with the Inputs Monitor Regional Index total average for the week, USDA Iowa basis swells to 3.13. Statewide, Inputs Monitor values are much closer to USDA, off only by 1.25.
