Is Your Community Home to a FFA Star Finalist?

The future of agriculture never fails to show flashes of excellence from the National FFA Organization. The group has announced 16 students across the U.S. as finalists for its 2016 top achievement awards, which include the American Star Farmer, American Star in Agribusiness, American Star in Agricultural Placement and the American Star in Agriscience.

“FFA has an award to match almost any member's unique talents and interests,” according to the organization. “Through awards programs members gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed in all aspects of life.”

Each of the finalists will receive a $2,000 prize and vie for an additional $2,000 if they are selected as a category winner. The final awards will be announced at the 89th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis this October.

Here are the finalists:

American Star Farmer

  • Tony Phillip Lopes (Gustine, Calif.)
  • Tysen Rosenau (Carrington, N.D.)
  • Evan Schaefer (Miami Trace, Ohio)
  • Tyler Jacob Schnaithman (Garber, Okla.)

American Star in Agribusiness

  • Terry Napier (Madison, Ky.)
  • David Stenzel (United South Central FFA Chapter, Minn.)
  • Garrett Dale Yerigan (Pryor, Okla.)
  • Shane A. Mueller (Garretson, S.D.)

American Star in Agricultural Placement

  • Joseph Knapp Boddiford (Southeast Bulloch, Ga.)
  • Riley A. Lewis (Prairie Heights, Ind.)
  • Brett Petersen (Kerkohoven Murdock Sunburg FFA Chapter, Minn.)
  • Nathan Leystra (Randolph Cambria-Friesland FFA Chapter, Wisc.)

American Star in Agriscience

  • Jordan Paine (Southern Valley FFA Chapter, Neb.)
  • Elizabeth A. Renner (West Central FFA Chapter, S.D.)
  • Taylor Shayne Swinson (Sulphur Springs, Texas)
  • Kaitlin Hallam (Spanish Fork, Utah)
