Land Sale of the Week: $10,755/a in East-Central Illinois

The Nov. 18 auction of 556 non-contiguous acres provided a strong test for the Champaign County, Ill., farmland market. The six tracts, located south and northwest of Rantoul sold for a total price of $5,980,000. That figures to an average price of $10,755 an acre.

The farms were primarily all tillable. Of the total of 556 acres offered, 553 acres were tillable. The soil's Productivity Index on the six tracts ranged from 138 to 143 with 147 being maximum per Illinois Bulletin 811. The average PI across the full 556 was 141.
