Land Sale of the Week: $11,804/acre in East-Central Illinois

An Aug. 18 auction in Coles Co., Ill., saw 164 acres sell for $11,804 per acre. The farm was located five miles north of Mattoon. It featured 156 tillable acres tillable and high-quality soils with a PI 141.2 (147 is maximum per Bulletin 811). The farm also had three grain bins, two with a capacity of 7,200 bu. and one with a capacity of 6,000 bushels.

The farm was offered as two tracts but sold as a single unit.

  When I bought ground at $1635/acre, I was crazy. When I bought ground at $4750/acre, I was really crazy. I turned down $10,000/acre. I don't feel too crazy.
