Land Sale of the Week: $9,473/a in Western Kentucky

Mike Walsten

An auction of 452 acres of flat row crop river bottom land in McLean Co., Ky., sold March 10 for a total of $4,285,718, or $9,473 an acre on average. The property, located near Rumsey in central McLean County, was offers in six tracts that were purchased by two area farmers. Two tracts of tiled silty loam soil totaling 266 acres sold for $10.300 an acre. The remaining four tracts of 186 acres of flat, untiled silty loam sold for $8,285 an acre. Two of these tracts had Green River frontage, however, the coal and other minerals rights as well as the riparian rights along the river were not included. The property also had an older barn and house, which was deemed to contribute very little value.

Handling the auction was Joe Mills and Amy Whistle of Kurtz Auction & Realty Co., Owensboro, 800-264-1204.
