Machinery Pete: Hay, Forage Equipment in High Demand

September 6, 2016 03:35 PM

Machinery Pete is checking on forage tools this week.

He says hay and forage equipment is a perfect example of smaller equipment in very good condition that is extremely high in demand.

On a northwest Wisconsin farm auction late last month, Machinery Pete saw two highlights of this trend. One of the pieces of equipment was a John Deere 100 bail stacker that sold for $2,575, which is a new record high auction price. The previous record holder? $1,800.

At the same auction, a New Holland 900 forage chopper went up for bid, selling for $13,600. Machinery Pete says this was the highest auction price for a New Holland 900 chopper in more than five years.
