Buyer demand for good-condition used mid-horsepower tractors started off hot in 2019 and never really cooled off.
At a Jan. 18, 2019, farm auction in northeast North Carolina while filming “Machinery Pete TV” (MachineryPete.com/mptv), we watched a sharp John Deere 7230 Premium tractor with 1,229 hours, MFWD and loader sell for $79,000. This is the highest auction price on a John Deere 7230 in 13 months.
A Nov. 2, 2019, farm auction in west-central Kansas saw a clean 2010 Case IH Maxxum 140 tractor with 816 hours, MFWD and loader sell for $82,000. That is a new record-high auction price on a Maxxum 140 with loader; the previous record was $80,000 for a 2012 Maxxum 140 with loader and just 501 hours, which sold at a Sept. 7, 2017, farm auction in north-central Iowa.
Take a look at the highest sale price in the table below. The John Deere 7610 with only 650 hours sold for $110,000 in May. Despite being 17 years old, the price is $20,000 higher than the previous record of $90,000 from an April 2, 2012, farm sale in Saskatchewan.
