Margin Minute: Plan 2018 Crops With Early Planting In Mind

August 30, 2017 04:00 AM

As you begin to think through 2018 corn and soybean decisions, consider how to manage seed costs effectively in light of the trend of planting earlier each year, advises Eric Zumbach, DuPont Pioneer field agronomist for southeast Iowa.

“Yield is what’s going to pay the bills,” Zumbach tells Chris Barron of Ag View Solutions in the latest “Margin Minute” video on AgWeb.com. Pay attention to genetics, seed treatments, chemical applications for disease control and other factors that could influence production per acre.

By focusing on the details of your production plan, you can achieve greater success.

“Look at the total program and tie the whole thing together,” Zumbach says.
