The right suite of mobile apps can turn any farmer’s smartphone into a virtual Swiss Army knife, capable of any number of helpful tasks. Farmers Edge hopes its latest offering – FarmCommand Scouting – adds another helpful tool to the mix.
FarmCommand Scouting is intended to link farmers with high-resolution satellite imagery from Farmers Edge to make faster decisions on diseases, pests, weeds and drainage issues. The app will help them isolate specific areas of concern faster with this in-season imagery, according to president and CEO Wade Barnes.
“This tool stands as another example of how Farmers Edge is pushing the industry from precision to decision agriculture,” he says.
Users can geotag areas of concerns in a field, taking photos and notes about it. They also can download map layers and use GPS navigation to more easily pinpoint and navigate to areas of interest. All of this information synchs to the Farmers Edge FarmCommand software platform.
The app also includes a reference guide for common weeds, diseases and crop injuries. It also works with or without a cell signal.
FarmCommand is free to download on Apple and Android mobile devices. Visit www.FarmersEdgeUSA.com for additional information.
