Improving dairy herd nutritional efficiency with its new Dairy Initiative program is the focus of a new video released by Papillon Agricultural Company.
The Dairy Initiative is a proprietary feed efficiency audit that Papillon conducts in coordination with dairy producers and consulting nutritionists. The Dairy Initiative includes a comprehensive examination of a producer’s management and nutrition practices. The audit results assist the nutritionist and dairy management team in improving feed efficiency based on nutritional, economic and environmental factors.
Clayton Stoffel, Papillon’s Dairy Initiative project manager, first meets with a dairy’s management and its nutritionist; then gathers data and samples. He then compiles the results and returns with analyses and potential opportunities for increased efficiency.
The Dairy Initiative audit results are expressed in the form of an efficiency score, the Papillon Efficiency Index (PEI). Developed with the assistance of top dairy nutrition researchers, dairy nutritionists, and dairy producers, the PEI identifies how a specific dairy’s efficiency benchmarks in a region at the present time and into the future.
Using the Dairy Initiative, producers can:
- Receive the audit at no charge
- Identify nutritional strengths and opportunities
- Identify and quantify potential economic gains
- Evaluate opportunities through “what if” scenarios
Nutritionists using the Dairy Initiative:
- Can access third-party resources to achieve on-farm goals
- Offer a value-added service to customers
- Can have confidence that metrics are supported by industry leaders and scientific references
“The Dairy Initiative provides true value to dairy producers,” David Briggs, president, says. “The most important thing for Papillon is to see dairy producers succeed. As we continue to help them become more efficient, it improves our entire industry.”
