From Lawn Waste to Silage

 BioPacr in truck2

Grass clippings can be converted into silage by using the BioPac’r, a self-contained compactor that fits in a pickup or small trailer and makes 3'x4'x5' bales that weigh 1,400-lb. Once sealed into a customized silage bag, the fresh clippings aerobically convert into livestock feed during a 28-day ensiling period. A University of Wyoming feeding trial showed that the lawn clipping silage fed to test calves (500 lb. to 900 lb.) produced faster gains than control calves on traditional feed. Price: $13,995. Hay Rake Enhancement

rake wheel2

VRTS System Inc. of Wolbach, Neb., has introduced a line of products designed to address broken and bent teeth on V-rakes or side-delivery tine rakes. The V-Rake Teeth Support (VRTS) System uses high-density polyethylene straps added to rake wheels to support the teeth. The system helps the teeth work mechanically while reducing teeth bending and breaking, getting more hay into the windrows. Once installed, the rake’s down pressure can be set to meet field conditions, allowing more pressure for heavy windrows and less with light hay. The system was invented by farmer Reg Roth. Price range: $97 to $116.40 per wheel. For more information, visit or call (855) 754-4011.

Digital Inverter Generators

 Polaris generator

A new product line by Polaris Power includes three digital inverter generators. The convenient, portable power source can recharge sensitive GPS and computer electronics; power tools such as reciprocating saws, hammer drills, work lights and small welders; recharge 12-volt batteries; or provide for backup power needs. The three models—P1000i, P2000i and P3000i—deliver 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 watts of maximum AC output. Users can manage power output by using the economy throttle on the generators, which run quieter than a typical conversation. The smaller P1000i and P2000i generators can be linked for additional power, while the P3000i unit can run for 21 hours. Price: P1000i, $649.99; P2000i, $999.99; P3000i, $1,799.99. For more information, visit or contact your local Polaris dealership.
